List Of Advertising Agensies In Nigeria

Advertising practice in Nigeria dates back to the pre-independence years when the scene of the industry was dominated by European practitioners who then held offices of there overseas based multinational companies in West Africa. There offices in Nigeria and other parts of West Africa served only as extensions of there marketing frontiers on the African continent. The economy was ruled from London, New York, Paris and other European centers.
As independence knocked at the doors, the locals itched for a piece of the cake. The opportunity came in 1974, some 14 years after independence, following the promulgation of the indegenisation decree. The result was that the foreigners quickly sold off their shares and the Nigerian Managers took over the advertising industry as it is known today. In the year before independence the entire advertising business in Nigeria revolved around the West African publicity Limited. The company latter split up into two. A major part of that division became what is now known as Lintas adverting Limited and Afro-media Limited. While Lintas served as the main prong of creative advertising, Afromedia represented the pillar in outdoor advertising. The whole industry has since then developed along this two major lines of agency business and outdoor advertising business. The number of local agencies on both sides have since grown tremendously. Today, there are well over 200 advertising agencies and about the same number of outdoor advertising companies spread across the industry.
